| | | | | | |
Background Of Bhambarde
| | | | The Bhambarde project area is related with 45 villages of Mulshi Taluka of Pune District. The population in this side of the taluka is 60,000/-. Almost 10% of the population migrates to Pune and Mumbai for their livelihood. Of this, 25% population belongs to scheduled tribe and scheduled caste. Marginal farmers and landless labourers travel to various places outside this area
| | | | | | Till 1980 there were only 20 schools upto Std IV and till year 2000 there were only three schools upto Std VII. In 2000 SAMPARC organization started its first school for std VIII, IX and X Std. at village Bhambarde. There was no industry, no hospital, no proper road or any basic infrastructure till 1996 in this 2000 sq.km. area. The only post office, which is about 15 km from here located at village Ambavane. Travel from village Ambavane to Bhambarde takes about 40 minutes by road
| | | | |
Socioeconomically the population has suffered alot. Most of the land was purchased by investors to develop projects such as The Amby Valley Project. Hardly 40% land is remaining with the villagers of which 5% can be used for agriculture. Mostly the livelihood of the local people is derived from 30% from their own agriculture resources, 20% from forest resources and 50% assistance from their relatives living in the urban areas. Though the region receives 625 cm of rainfall, people suffer from water shortage for various reasons. Illiteracy and poverty are the two major curses for the tribals

| Proposal |
SAMPARC organisation runs a school from Std VIII to X at village Bhambarde in Mulshi Taluka, for education of the disadvantaged rural community children since 1999. Accommodation covers an area of 1200 sq.ft. area consisting of three rooms where at present 60 children reside. |
| |
The school upto std X is the first of its kind for the children of 24 villages of west and south part of the Mulshi Taluka in Dist. Pune. This region is backward with rugged terrain. There is no proper network of roads and the transport facilities are very poor. Most of the students are attending school beyond std VII for the first time. Therefore SAMPARC proposes to construct a school for students upto std X. |
| |
Almost 70% of the children are from the below poverty level and from the backward community. Most of the children come to the hostel after their schooling upto std IV from Zilla Parishad School from their own village. They attend Zilla Parishad School upto std VII at village Bhambarde and for std VIII they join SAMPARC school |
| |
Close to the hostel, SAMPARC has constructed classrooms with the help of Mahindra British Telecom Company, Pune and the school building was inaugurated by Hon’ble. Mr. Anandji Mahindra – Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra Co., Mumbai. |
| |
The villagers now want SAMPARC to start class from std V. SAMPARC is now taking responsibility of running the school from std V. For convenience of teaching SAMPARC does not charge any fees from the children for accommodation, fooding and education .
Due to the increasing strength of both boys and girls students SAMPARC has realized the need of a separate hostel building where an additional 50 boys can be accommodated |
| | | | | | |
| Target Group of Project | | | | - To provide education upto X Std. to the youth, who studied minimum upto VIII Std. from the Mulshi Taluka area.
- To provide free food and accommodation to as many students as possible. SAMPARC at present is providing free food and accommodation to 60 students. They are now studying at Bhambarde school. Many of the students commute to from distant villages to attend the SAMPARC high school .
